The Colca Valley

The Colca Valley is located a few hours away from the north area of Arequipa city, in Peru. The Colca river and Cañon del Colca river are both located there.

Beautiful landscapes and amazing animals such as condor, llama, alpaca, guanaco, vicuña and vizcachas can be enjoyed in this wonderful place.

In order to reach this valley it is necessary to ascend about four thousand three hundred meters above sea level and afterwards descend near three thousand four hundred meters between snowy landscapes.

Leaving from Arequipa heading for the Colca Valley, the first town we will found is Chivay. A natural viewpoint is one of the place's main attractions, from where condors flying in their natural habitat and the Ampato and Coropuna Volcanoes can be enjoyed.

The Colca Canyon

It is the Canyon of the Colca river, located in the south area of Peru, about a hundred and sixty kilometers north of Arequipa. This canyon is reportedly the deepest in the world, thought to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States.

The Colca river begins high in the Andes, at Condorama Crucero Alto, drops down to the Pacific in stages, changing its name to Majes and finally to Camaná before flowing into the Pacific Ocean.

Moreover, this impressive Canyon is home to the great South American condor.
