Tourist information about Barcelona

The Spanish city of Barcelona, capital city of Catalonia and the province bearing the same name, is located a hundred and twenty kilometers south from the Pyrenees mountain range and from the border with France, along the Mediterranean coast.

More precisely, it is a plain located between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and limited to the east by the sea and to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge.

This city has a population of about one million and a half and it is the tenth most populated city in the European Union and the second one in Spain, after Madrid.

In addition to its stunning beauty, this place is very well known worldwide because important events are held here regularly.

Some examples of these major events are the 1888 Universal Exhibition and the 1929 International Exhibition as well as the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures. Moreover, this city is well known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Sightseens & Tours in Barcelona

This bustling city offers an exciting variety of attractions and entertainment. From walking round the Roman ruins and the medieval city to visiting the neighborhoods where the legacy left by Catalan modernisme architecture can be noted in the streets.

One of the most popular attractions among tourists visiting the area is Las Rambla or Les Rambles in Catalan. These are wide pedestrian streets that run from the square known as “Plaça de Catalunya” (Catalonia Square) in the city center to the old port.

Another well worth visiting attraction in Barcelona are its beautiful beaches. What is more, the modernisme movement was centered on this city, where the talented architect Antonio Gaudi spent an important part of his life.

Nowadays, a number of Gaudi’s works of art can be found in Barcelona, which attracts many tourists to the area each year, especially his unfinished and most representative masterpiece, the Sagrada Família or “Temple of the Holy Family".
