How to arrive by plane

Owing to its two important airports, it is possible to get to Buenos Aires by air from any of the world’s main cities.

 

One of these airports, named Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, is located next to the riverbank, approximately five minutes away from the city centre. Domestic and regional flights mainly leave and arrive from this airport.

 

The International Airport of Ezeiza on the other hand, located approximately fifteen minutes away from the city centre by the motorway, serves the city with international flights mostly. In order to get to Buenos Aires by land Argentina has a vast highway network, organised in such way that all highways converge at the capital city.

 

It is possible to travel to Buenos Aires from any of the neighbouring countries and provincial cities of Argentina by car as much as by bus.

 

By car

 

To get to Buenos Aires by car from Mar del Plata the trunk road is RN 2, from Salta, Jujuy and Tucumán provinces the main roads are RN 9 and RN 34, from Formosa, Chaco and Santa Fe provinces: RN 9 and RN 11. From Santiago del Estero RN 34 and RN 9 roads should be taken.

 

Moreover, from Misiones, Corrientes and Entre Ríos provinces, the major roads are RN 12 and RN 9, from Córdoba RN 9, RN 36 or RN 8, from Catamarca and La Rioja: RN 38, RN 60 and RN 9, from San Juan RN 20 and RN 9. Finally, from Mendoza and San Luis RN 7.

 

Nevertheless, in order to travel to Buenos Aires from la Pampa, the trunk road is RN 5, while if you are planning to travel from the Andean Patagonia, the are three possibilities. Firstly, you can travel through Bahía Blanca, secondly through La Pampa, or you can go through Santa Rosa as well.

 

From the Andean Patagonia through Bahía Blanca: RN 40, RN 258, RN 237, RN 22 and RN 3 any of these roads might be taken. Through La Pampa: RN 40, RN 258, RN 237, RN 22, RN 151, RP 20 and, finally, through Santa Rosa: RN 143, RN 152, RN 35 and RN 5. From the Atlantic Patagonia the main road is RN 3.

 

By bus

 

In order to travel to Buenos Aires by bus, there is a bus station located at Ramos Mejía Avenue very close to Retiro Station.

 

Such station’s buses are aimed at long distance journeys and are equipped with air conditioning and bar service.

How to arrive by train

As for train travel, Ferrobaires; concentrates the whole railway network of the country, one of the world’s largest networks. Moreover, Amigos del Tranvía Asociation, Ferrovías, and Metropolitano are other important companies.

Five of the main train stations are located in Gran Buenos Aires, putting it into contact with the rest of the country. There are four train Terminals that connect the capital city with the suburbs and the rest of the country; and they are: Retiro, Constitución, Federico Lacroze y Once.

 

Train fares may vary according to each journey and must be paid at the station. The lowest fare costs $ 0, 50.

 

Furthermore Metrovías is a subway system that connects the most important areas of the city.

Ferry services conveniently link Buenos Aires with Uruguay at regular intervals.


It is possible to travel daily by sea to and from Uruguay’s capital city, Montevideo. There are also services from Colonia.
