More than just a visually stunning area, this city offers excellent tourist facilities. Hills and mountains covered in luxuriant vegetation are some features of this place which is ideal to get back to nature.
The purest Atlantic Forest vegetation can be found at Emerências Reserve, including exotic plants, bromeliads and even the last golden tamarin monkeys of the region.
What is more, at the Tauá Reserve, over 300 species of butterflies and 60 bird species can be seen. Two Environmental Protection Areas (APAs) can be found in Buzios. The main aim of these areas is to preserve the natural heritage of the place and its surroundings.
One of these protection areas, the Pau Brasil APA is a large area that goes from Tucuns Beach in Buzios all the way to Cabo Frio. Furthermore, it is the most important Pau-Brasil (Brazil wood) reserve in the state.
