During the year 2006 Cordoba was designated as America’s Cultural Capital. “Cordoba is the heart of culture and this is a great oportunity to prove it (...). We must fulfil our duties and be worthy of the occasion”.
This quotation comes from the speech given by the city’s Intendant, Luis Juez, after the official papers of the America’s Cultural Capital Organisation were signed.
Moreover, Xavier Tudela claimed that in other cities of the world the Cultural Capital status brought about major changes, and appeared confident about the work that this city would do.
The nomination raise great expectation in the rest of the continent and Cordoba outline a number of strategies and plans in order to encourage innovation in terms of the city’s cultural life.
In order to achieve the designation, arduous and demanding work was required. Luckily, the Culture and Education Secretary Office’s hard work was recognised all over the continent and the Old World.
