How to travel by air

From Argentina

 

In order to travel to the waterfalls by air from Argentina the Iguassu International Airport is available. Such airport operates flights from Argentina’s main cities including Buenos Aires, the capital city, among others.


About three hundred thousand passengers pass through this airport annually. During peak seasons, in July and between December and February, the number of passengers increases substantially. 


As for the flights, airlines such as Arsa/Austral, SW and Lapa fly daily to Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Sao Paulo, with stopovers in Argentina’s most important cities.


How to travel by air

From Brazil

 

In order to travel to the waterfalls by air from Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu International Airport is available. This airport provides a range of facilities and is said to be one of the best-equipped airports within the country. 

Foz do Iguaçu International Airport is located on the Route BR 469, km 16. Next to the airport the Conventions Centre can be found. Moreover, the city centre is located 16 kilometres away from here.

From Paraguay

 

In order to access the waterfalls by air from Paraguay the Guaraní International Airport should is available. Such airport was built thanks to the Japanese government’s help and it was inaugurated in the year 1996.

 

Although this airport is used mainly for transporting loads, a number of international airlines operate here. Furthermore, it is located in the heart of Minga Guazú city and only 26 kilometres away from Ciudad del Este. 

How to get by land

From Argentina

 

As for road transport, it is possible to travel to the waterfalls from Argentina by car or by bus.

 

Should you travel by car, you shall have to follow National Route 12 from Posadas first, bordering Paraná until connecting with National Route 9, one of the main access to the capital of the country.


A further possibility would be to follow National Route 14, until arriving at the junction with route 12 through the Provincial 40.

 

Furthermore, there are regular bus services available as well in order to get to the waterfalls. There is a wide variety of companies in charge of transporting passengers from Buenos Aires to the Iguassu Falls, being the best-known ones Crucero del Norte, Expreso Tigre Iguassu and Expreso Singer S.A.


From Brazil

 

To get to the waterfalls by land from Brazil, it is possible to follow the route BR 277, which links Curitiba (capital city of Paraná) and Foz  do Iguaçu. Otherwise, it is possible to travel directly along route BR 469, the waterfalls’ route, which links the park and the city.

 

In order to access the waterfalls from Porto Alegre you must travel 1005 kilometres along the route BR 277. Moreover, provided you travel from San Paulo, you will have to travel 1115 kilometres along that same route.


How to get by land

From Paraguay

 

The only way to access the Iguassu Falls from Paraguay is through the International Route, leaving from Asunción and travelling 309 kilometres. 


From Chile

 

Provided you travel from Chile, it is possible to access the waterfalls simply through the JAMA passage, travelling about 2540 kilometres from Santiago de Chile.


International Passage

 

Crossing the Tancredo Neves Internarional Bridge is also an available alternative, since such bridge links Puerto Iguassu in Argentina with  Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil. Besides, such city is linked with Ciudad del Este through a bridge known as “Puente de la Amistad”.

 

It is also possible to access the Iguassu Falls through the following areas: from Cuaraí to Artigas crossing the International Bridge in Concordia and from Yaguarón to Rio Branco crossing the Maguá International Bridge. Moreover, from the Iguassu Falls to Bella Unión, through the passage known as “Paso de las Liebre”(Hares’ Passage).

Fluvial Transport

Also, raft service is available in order to get to Iguassu, linking together a range of places within the three countries that constitute the so-called tri-border.

 

Some examples of places that are linked by the raft system are: Puerto Rico in Argentina with Puerto Triunfo in Paraguay; El Dorado in Argentina with Mayor Otaño also in Paraguay; El Soberbio in Argentina with Porto Soberbo in Brazil. Also, it links Alba Posse in Argentina with Porto Mauá in Brazil; and, finally, Panambí in Argentina with Veracruz in Brazil.
