Given that the seaside resort is located on a great rock formation, a considerable number of deep holes and canals ideal for fishing can be found here.
A rich variety of fish can be caught in La Pedrera being the most popular during peak seasons corvinas, sheepsheads, mackerels, “chuchos” and rays among others.
Provided weather conditions are favourable the most important fishing spots within the seaside resort are “Pozo de Musio” located on the right side of the “Desplayado” beach and “Pozo de Méndez” which is located very close to “del Barco” beach and is said to be the most efficient one.
During summer corvinas are the most common preys. Moreover, a vast number of medium-sized mackerels and sheepsheads are likely to be found during peak seasons as well.
The ideal equipment consists of:
- Fishing Rod able to cast from 4 to 4.2 metres and 200 grams of lead
- Fixed-spool reels or revolving-spool reels
- Striated fishing sinker with drop shape
- Lead fishing sinkers should weigh 120 grs.
The most frequently used fishhooks are Eagle Claw and others known as short shank hooks both of 4/0 or 5/0. Using smaller hooks is not recommended.
As for the bait, using shrimps, worms and Spanish sardines is highly recommended. Other baits are not likely to be effective. |
