Botanical Garden Joaquin Antonio Uribe

This beautiful botanical garden was founded in 1972 in memory of one of Antioquia’s most respected naturalists: Joaquin Antonio Uribe, who encouraged the development of a movement known as La escuela de Sonsón.

Located in the surroundings of the University of Antioquia, near the Planetario Municipal (Municipal Planetarium) and the Parque Norte (a park named Norte), this garden is a wildlife refuge, where a number of Colombian animal and plant species are found, as well as a research center.

A number of event rooms and exhibition halls, a library and an auditorium are some of the facilities available here. What is more, a lake and an orchid garden, a small country village, an ecologic train and green areas are some of the attractions this place offers.

The Club de Jardinería (Gardening Club) and the Sociedad Colombiana de Orquideología have set up their head offices in the Botanical Garden.

This well worth visiting attraction is opened to public from Monday to Friday, from nine in the morning to five o’clock in the afternoon. On holy days it remains opened until six o’clock. Visitors should check the days when the park remains closed.
