One of Mendoza Province’s most striking features is the wide range of outdoor sport facilities that are offered there. Hence, Mendoza is one of the country’s most important provinces when it comes to skiing resorts and winter sports. 

Great attractions such as the Aconcagua Provincial Park and two lively thermal resorts, among others, can be enjoyed at this province. What is more, the country’s major skiing resorts can be found here, namely Las Leñas, Penitentes, Vallecitos and Manantiales.

Nature and ecological tourism constitute the province’s main characteristic and Mendoza, main features and tourist attractions will vary according to the season of the year in which we visit it.

La Leñas Valley, one of the country’s most modern skiing resorts, is located 400 kilometres away from Mendoza, 200 kilometres away from San Rafael and 1186 kilometres from Buenos Aires. It features 34 kilometres of skiing slopes between 2250 and 3430 metres above mean sea level and 60 skiable kilometres in total.

Ski lovers will find excellent off-piste areas apt for extreme skiing in La Leñas. Moreover, the resort has 12 lifts that can carry up to 10,000 skiers per hour. Thus, skiers won’t have to wait long.

The Eros slope is clearly illuminated and, therefore, visitors can go skiing at night. The maximum non-stop skiable distance is of 7050 metres, being the largest slope in Argentina. Other sports such as snowboard and sleigh rides may be tried here as well. 

Moreover, the resort offers a vast range of facilities. Services such as ski schools, ski-related shops where all the necessary equipment can be rented, medical care, restaurants, tennis courts, casinos, nightclubs, among others are readily available for tourists to hugely enjoy their stay.

Penitentes winter resort, located in the department known as La Heras, consists of 28 different slopes with different lengths and drops for beginner, advanced and expert skiers, and it occupies at present more than 300 hectares of skiable surface.

This resort boasts eight modern ski lifts and the summit is about 3194 metres high. The maximum non-stop skiable distance is of 7000 metres and the total drop of 614 metres.

A broad array of sports events takes place at this resort. Competition, Nordic and alpine skiing, mountain climbing at the Penitentes Hill, snowboard and sleigh rides are some of the activities than can be enjoyed. 

Vallecitos (Small Valleys) is located 80 kilometres away from Mendoza City, 2900 metres above mean sea level, at the foot of Cordón del Plata (6300 metres above sea level). It boasts 7 lifts and can carry 2,400 skiers per hour and 4500 metres of slope in total.

“Del Plata” Valleys also feature 7 lifts that can carry 2400 skiers per hour. It is located in Luján de Cuyo Department and the summit goes up to 3350 metres. Moreover, this resort consists of 12 slopes that amount to 4740 metres in total. The total skiing surface encompasses 100 has.

The maximum non-stop skiable distance is of 2400 metres and the skiable drop is of 450 metres. Horse riding and mountain climbing can be enjoyed here as well.
