FINE ARTS PALACE

The Metropolitan Cathedral

Located in the heart of Plaza de la Constitucion (Constitution Square), this majestic Cathedral is one of America’s greatest architectural masterpieces.

Historical records suggest that the cathedral began to be built in 1532, though it was not completely finished until 1813.

Given the fact that it took so long to complete the construction works, it is inferred that the Cathedral’s architecture resulted from a combination of a variety of styles, including Gothic, Neoclassical and Herreran.

Inside the building it is possible to enjoy special details as well, such as choir stalls from Filipinas and two astonishing altars.

Santo Domingo Square

Located between a variety of old and important buildings and still preserving its colonial style, Santo Domingo is the second most important square in Mexico City’s Historic Center.

One of the square’s main attractions is the Santo Domingo Church, which was part of the Customs building and the convent of Dominican predicators in former times.

This is a spacious building with a great façade and balconies of quarry stone. A well worth visiting attraction.
