Tourist information about Puno

Puno is a department located in the south east area of Peru, in the Collao Plateau. Areas of great beauty such as the Titicaca Lake, the Andes mountain range and the jungle can be found here.

The Andes cover about seventy percent of the department's total area, and consist of the Altiplano, the slopes, and the amazing mountain range. The jungle, on the other hand, covers only a quarter of the total area.

The city of Puno, located 3827 meters above sea level on shores of the famous and mythical Titicaca Lake, is the country's lacustrine port and the Altiplano's cultural center.

The Altiplano begins in the north east area, near Cusco in the Raya mountain range, crossing through the Titicaca basin and spreading out to the south east area up to the Humahuaca ravine in Argentina.

Climate in this region is quite cold and dry and the rainy season lasts four months. Nevertheless, the climate in the jungle is milder and warmer.
