Quito, popularly known as "'Reliquary of the Americas'", is a city located 2800 meters above sea level in the Andes Mountain Range, along a plateau covering 12,000 square kilometers.
It is the capital city of both, the Republic of Ecuador and the Pichincha province and an area of contrasting geography climate, traditions and culture. Not only is Quito a clear example of a modern city but also it is a city where the colonial style is very well preserved.
Spaniards began to build this city and in 1534 it was finally founded. According to historians it was built on the remains of an indigenous community known as the "Shyris".
Owing to the city's contrasting geography and its rich architectural wealth, the city is divided into three areas: the North area, the Centre and the South area.
It appears lively and winding in maps. Large green areas can be found here, ideal to make a stop and enjoy the view of the city, as well as large and modern avenues. Finally, there is a variety of means of transport available at this city.
