Skiing in Chapelco Hill

The “Cerro Chapelco” is a 1980 meter high hill that offers a breathtaking panoramic view. What is more, one of the best skiing resorts in all the Patagonia can be found here.
This resort, well known worldwide, is located 19 kilometers from the mountain village. It offers twenty ski runs with different levels of difficulty and excellent quality snow.

Horseback Riding
|
Horse riding is a must for tourists visiting San Martin de los Andes. It is highly recommended to enjoy a ride along paths, streams and forests. There are many options available, catering for all tastes.
For example, while most rides last about two or three hours, it is possible to spend an entire day here, including a barbecue. Some excursions even last for two days.
Not only will tourists enjoy beautiful landscapes during the ride but also they will watch closely different animal species and the local wildlife.

Rafting

Rafting is an activity that has been gaining great popularity among extreme water sports in San Martin de los Andes. Aluminé river is opened for rafting activities, which attract each time more followers.
It consists of floating in rubber boats specially designed for this activity, along the river rapids.
This is usually done on turbulent whitewater as soon as the spring begins. The rafting season lasts until the summer wears on, when the level of the river goes down.
There are two main sections to raft through. One is located six kilometers from the locality and it is known as the Abra Ancha section and the other one is located near the lake and it is the Alumine section.

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking is another challenging recreational activity that can be enjoyed at San Martin de los Andes. Although riding a bike seems fairly easy, the route that must be followed is full of difficulties.
Generally, passengers are taken to a starting point which is located high above and must descend by bicycle, with the supervision of a guide.
These journeys last half a day and occasionally one entire day. However, it is possible to organize longer journeys and include vehicles, food and camp sites. In this case, enquiries must be made in advance.
