From Neuquén, route 22 must be followed in first place, then routes 237 and 234 passing by Piedra del Aguila, Collon Cura and Junin de los Andes.
Finally, in order to travel to San Martin de los Andes from neighboring country Chile, there are two possibilities: to travel from Osorno crossing the Puyehue Pass or to travel from Pucon through the Tromen Pass.
By Bus
It is important to remember that it takes 21 hours to cover the whole journey from Buenos Aires to San Martin de los Andes by bus, stops included.
All bus companies offer units equipped with on-board bathroom and bar, and some of them include others services such as sleepers and meals avoiding stops.
The bus companies that run permanently and include additional services are: Terminal de Ómnibus San Martín de los Andes (San Martin de los Andes Bus Terminal), Chevallier, La Estrella, TAC, El Valle, Centenario, Albus, El Petróleo, La Unión del Sur, La Puntual, Vía Bariloche and Centenario among others.
Border Crossings
The border crossings that can be found within Neuquén Province are: Icalma Pass, Pino Hachado Pass, Tromen Pass, Hua-Hum Pass and the Cardenal Samoré Pass, which used to be known as Puyehue Pass.
While each customs house sets its own border crossing hours, people from the National Gendarmerie are the ones in charge of customs and migration controls and public health inspection.
