Sightseens & Tours in Santiago de Chile

Only a few minutes away from the city we can enjoy the sea, lakes and mountains. Also, it is possible to learn about the “huasas” traditions and culture or to go skiing in Latin America’s best winter resort. The journey through Santiago can start from the Plaza de Armas (the Main Square), which is located in the city center. However, the city center is only a small part of the many attractions this place has to offer.

Bellavista, a neighborhood where a broad array of bars and arts can be found, the Brazil neighborhood, where students can be found mainly, or the picturesque Concha y Toro neighborhood, turn this city into a real metropolis. The Metropolitan Theatre is another attraction this city has to offer. This baroque building with Classical French style is a must for tourist visiting the area.

The market’s great structure made of galvanized iron was first built in England and assembled later in Santiago. This is one of the best places to taste and enjoy Chilean gastronomy, especially seafood.

Nowadays, inside the building, seafood, typical dishes and international food can be enjoyed. Also, there are other attractions such as handicrafts and live shows to watch.

Forest Park in Santiago de Chile

This park, Santiago de Chile’s central park, was built in 1901 by the French landscape gardener Jorge Dubois. During the weekends, in the afternoon young people arrive at the park to present acrobatics acts, plays and shows.

The park is located at the city center alongside Mapocho river, between the Prat and Baquedano Squares. With its curved paths, surrounded by a broad array of shady trees, this is a stunningly beautiful place. The National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of American Popular Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art can be visited within this park.

It covers an area of twelve hectares and it has a large number of monuments such as the ones of the Naval Combat of Iquique, the Martyrs of Aviation, the monument to Glory, the monuments of Icaro and Dédalo, the sculpture of Dios Pan, the monument to Ruben Dario and monuments to writers of the Independence period among others.

Plaza de Armas in Santiago de Chile

Located in the heart of the city, this square is surrounded by important cultural and religious buildings. In its center, a fortified area can be found, where the Spanish people used to keep a powder magazine. In former times, military exercise used to be mounted here. Thus, this square is nowadays known as Plaza de Armas.

Since it is located exactly in the center of Santiago, it is the city’s nerve center and therefore, it is the point from which all distances to other parts of Chile are measured.

A broad array of historic attractions can be enjoyed in its surroundings. One example of this is the Governor’s House, nowadays known as the Casa Central de Correos, and the Real Audiencia, nowadays Santiago’s Municipality. Also, the Fernández Concha Portal and the Metropolitan Cathedral are well worth visiting attractions that stand here as well.
